Find Mac apps by task

Choose the job you want to do, then compare the apps that address it. Each category explains the differences, actual limits and Mac requirements.

What do you want to do?

Mac utilities

Start with the task that interrupts your day: finding a file, recovering disk space, restoring a window layout or converting a document. These utilities solve different problems, so choose by the workflow you need.

AI on your Mac

Choose the workspace first, then the model connection. A local model, a hosted API and a live website have different network and privacy requirements even when the desktop app is installed on your Mac.

Notes & study

The right study app depends on where your material starts: handwriting, a document, a recorded lecture or a live meeting. Pick a tool that preserves the source and produces an output you can review.

Media & creative

Choose by the output: an editable short video, a finished timeline, a live stream or a camera-based session. Local processing helps keep source media on your machine, but publishing or streaming still uses a network.

Data tools

Data cleaning, training-data preparation and dashboard design are separate jobs. Choose the workspace that matches your input and check what its output represents before sharing it.

Learn to code

Choose a course by the skill you want to practise and the work you will produce. A planning lesson, an editable coding lab and an algorithms exercise offer different kinds of practice.

Language & speech

Decide whether you need a structured course, pronunciation practice or focused exam preparation. The number of languages alone does not tell you which app fits your next learning goal.

Health & wellbeing

Choose a journal around the information you want to record and review. Consistent dates, observations and context can make your own record easier to understand and discuss.

Work & market

Start with the material you already have: a job description, competitor copy, an audience CSV or a draft. Choose an app that makes the transformation visible and leaves you in control of the result.

Before you buy

  1. Check your macOS version and processor in About This Mac, then match them to the product's website release record.
  2. Read the capabilities and limitations. Check whether your workflow needs downloaded models, permissions or an optional online provider.
  3. Review real screenshots and the installation guide. The website Direct edition can differ from the Mac App Store edition.
  4. Choose one app for $10, two different apps for $20 or every published app for $49. Website purchases have no recurring app subscription.
