Corpus turns a collection of your own source material into a focused local research workspace. Paste a source or import multiple UTF-8 plain-text, Markdown or CSV files, then keep those documents in a persistent on-device library across relaunches. Each source remains visible with its type and word count, and you can remove material that no longer belongs in the corpus.
Choose a question or a grounded-draft request. Corpus divides the library into bounded passages, runs deterministic term-based BM25 retrieval and selects the strongest matching evidence. Its no-model path creates an extractive digest with citation markers, so useful answers remain available without an account, API key or generative model. The evidence panel exposes the cited passages rather than hiding the retrieval behind a single response.
Optional synthesis can use Apple Intelligence on supported Macs, a local Ollama or LM Studio server, or a bring-your-own cloud provider. Generated work must resolve its citations, cite substantial paragraphs and support quantitative claims from the specific cited passage. If those checks fail or a provider is unavailable, Corpus returns to the deterministic cited result. Displayed relevance is capped at 100% and represents normalized retrieval relevance, not factual confidence or a probability of correctness.
Copy a Markdown research brief containing the question, grounded answer and sources; Direct reports carry the Corpus Direct footer. The separate website Direct edition is Developer ID-signed and Apple-notarized, permanently unlocks the full source library and reporting workflow after one purchase, and contains no StoreKit paywall, subscription flow, account requirement or trial timer.

What it doesn't do
Corpus is a local research aid, not a factual authority, legal review, comprehensive claim verifier or guarantee that an answer is complete. Retrieval is deterministic, lexical BM25 search rather than semantic embedding search, so vocabulary mismatch can omit relevant passages; the default answer context uses the strongest five retrieved chunks. Citation validation confirms that references resolve and that quantitative claims appear in their cited passages, but it cannot prove every nonnumeric statement, detect every contradiction or replace human source and editorial review. Imports are limited to UTF-8 plain text, Markdown and CSV, with a 2 MB maximum for each source; there is no PDF, Word, URL, browser, OCR or image ingestion. The library is local to the current Mac with no account, cloud sync or team sharing. Reports are copied as Markdown rather than exported as managed project files. Apple Intelligence and local providers depend on system availability; choosing a cloud provider sends the relevant question and retrieved source content directly to that provider under its terms.

What sources can Corpus use?
Corpus accepts pasted text and imported UTF-8 plain-text, Markdown and CSV files. You can select multiple files, and each individual source is limited to 2 MB. It does not currently extract PDFs, Word files, web pages, images or scanned documents.
Does Corpus need AI or an API key?
No. Local chunking, BM25 retrieval, cited evidence and the extractive answer path work without a model, account or API key. Apple Intelligence, Ollama, LM Studio and supported cloud providers are optional synthesis choices.
How does Corpus keep model answers grounded?
Model-assisted answers must use citations that resolve to retrieved passages, cite substantial paragraphs and support quantitative claims from the specific cited passage. A response that fails validation is replaced by the deterministic cited result. Human review is still required.
What does the relevance percentage mean?
It is a normalized display of term-based BM25 retrieval relevance, capped so it never exceeds 100%. It is not a factual confidence score, probability, quality guarantee or proof that a passage answers the question completely.
Where is the corpus stored?
The source library is persisted locally on the current Mac in a SQLite store. If persistence cannot be opened, Corpus warns that sources are session-only. There is no cloud sync, shared team workspace or account.
Is the website edition fully unlocked?
Yes. The separately built Corpus Direct edition unlocks the complete source-library and reporting workflow and excludes the App Store paywall and StoreKit code. It is a one-time website purchase with no subscription, account or trial timer.
Is this the same Corpus edition as the Mac App Store version?
No. The Mac App Store edition can include Apple's in-app subscription system. The website Direct edition is a separately signed build with no StoreKit purchase flow: one website purchase unlocks the complete app with no recurring charge.
Is Corpus the full version, or are features locked?
The download is the complete app. There is no subscription, no locked tier, no account, and no trial timer — every feature is included.
